The Podcasts Psychologists Are Listening To

No-one is more intrigued by human behaviour than psychologists. It’s our life, our passion, our purpose.

We’re an avid podcast audience with a love of learning and podcasts are such a simple way to learn on the go. I asked fellow psychologists to name the podcasts they’re listening to right now. The conversations and ideas that inspire, challenge, inform, motivate, entertain and educate. This is their list. Now it’s yours.

  1. The Osher Gunsberg Podcast: A weekly conversation that hopes to help you make today a little better than yesterday.

Tip: Episodes 248/249 in which documentary maker, storyteller and adventurer Todd Samson interviews Osher about his experience of life with a different brain is not to be missed. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll learn and you’ll emerge a better person.

  2. The Psychology Podcast with Dr Scott Barry Kaufman: Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman gives you insights into the mind, brain, behaviour and creativity with the help of his expert guests.

Tip: If you’re inspired by those who think deeply, SBK’s podcast hits the mark every time. Philosophy, sociology, academia, self-help, entertainment - all with a wonderful nerdy touch.

  3. WorkLife with Adam Grant: Organisational psychologist Adam Grant takes you inside unconventional workplaces where they’ve figured out how to make work not suck.

Tip: New in 2018, WorkLife averaged over 500,000 downloads per episode, spent two weeks as the #1 show on the entire Apple Podcasts chart, and was one of the most downloaded new shows of the year.

  4. We All Wear It Differently: A Podcasts for Psychologists: A podcast that aims to entertain and inspire psychologists by illustrating the diverse world of psychology through conversations with colleagues, peers and mentors.

Tip: I’m regularly amazed at the depth and breadth of psychology. Amy Felman interviews experts in every facet of human behaviour. If you’ve ever wondered what psychologists really do, this will blow your mind.

  5. TED Podcasts: The original go-to resource for every topic under the sun. Ideas that are worth spreading.

Tip: TED Talks for your ears!

  6. Where Should We Begin with Esther Perel: This original series takes you into the antechamber of intimate moments. Learn, explore and experience alongside the couples who have been gracious enough to share.

Tip: With episodes including, ‘I've Had 100 Conversations with You in My Head’ and ‘You Can Be Right or You Can Be Married’ this podcast gives you relationships insights you won’t find anywhere else.

  7. Pop The Kettle On - It’s Always Tea Time: The podcast for parents…And anyone who is awesome! This is a wonderfully relatable chat series in which clincial psychologist Rachel and former teacher Nic (with seven children between them) dissect the good, the bad and the ugly of family life and how it's depicted in popular culture.

Tip: Not your average parenting podcast.

  8. The Potential Psychology Podcast: Our very own interview series with parenting, performance and wellbeing experts! Discovering simple, science-backed ways to live, learn, flourish and fulfil your potential.

We’ve been so warmly received by the psychology community and beyond that we’re launching Season 4 in January 2019.

Tip: Well be publishing our ‘best of’ playlists from Seasons 1 to 3 over the holiday break. Stay tuned on Facebook and Instagram or subscribe for updates.
