Are you using your strengths?
Your homework for last week was to make a note of your strengths: the way that you think, feel or behave that help you in life. Here's a little summary of some of the strengths that the group shared..
- Good at analysis
- Difficult to offend
- Stay calm in a crisis
- A good friend
- Fun to be around
- Get things done
Next question: Do you use your strengths and could you use them more? (okay so that was two questions but stay with me)
Research tells us people who use their strengths on a daily basis...
1. Are happier
2. Are more confident
3. Have higher levels of self-esteem
4. Have higher levels of energy and vitality
5. Experience less stress
6. Are more resilient
7. Are more likely to achieve their goals
8. Perform better at work
9. Are more engaged at work
10.Are more effective at developing themselves and growing as individuals.
Have a think for a moment. How and where do you use your strengths? Could you use them more? How?
This is what I came up with
You can use your strengths in all facets of life - work, hobbies, parenting, relationships, community, friendships. Think about what you want to achieve and how you might harness your strengths to do it.
Part Two: Yes, there's two part homework today.
Knowing your strengths is vital to knowing yourself and the better you know yourself the more likely you'll achieve your goals and plans in life. But knowing your strengths is not enough. We also need to know what we're passionate about. So today's task is to list three things you love doing.
Think about all of the activities that you undertake day to day, week to week or month to month. What do you most look forward to? What inspires your mind and soul? What gives you that little spark of excitement? That readiness to get stuck in and do THAT THING above all of the other things you should be doing?
Here are my three:
1. Learning: reading, conferences, workshops, sharing knowledge, ideas
2. Creating: writing, producing content, gardening, photography, home decorating, sewing , cooking
3. Aesthetics: clothes, design, gardens, homes, interiors, landscapes.
List your three alongside your strengths. Your 'Who am I?' Profile is building!
